THREE WEEKS LATER…

“Number forty-four.”

“Whooooooaaaaa! Forty-four that’s me!” Ickey Woods chanted as I paid the delivery guy for our Chinese food.

“I love this commercial,” I said to Jayla, Senka and Venus as I closed the door. “Get some cold cuts, get some cold cuts, and get some cold cuts. Whoa! Gimme some…umph…forty-four ladies that’s me! Whoa…gonna get some cold cuts today!”

They laughed as I placed the food on the coffee table then continued to chant and imitate Ickey Woods doing the Ickey Shuffle as I headed into the kitchen to make us some drinks.

Since I was still on vacation, I invited the girls over for a little slumber party that included helping me pack Trill’s belongings because he refused to take them for the last two weeks when I told him to. I didn’t bother to mention my little plan of payback (they’d find out enough) or about Quinn because some things are better left to be told by that person. I hated that she didn’t come around as much but I understood. Ava was on flight duty so she couldn’t come.

“Personally, I think anyone who can stay away from their home without coming to grab a pair of drawers or a toothbrush must have clothes elsewhere,” I could hear Senka randomly blurt out.

“You right,” Venus and Jayla agreed in unison.

“Didn’t Kamari say they stayed an extra week at the beach?” Venus asked.

“Yeah. Me and Kam got into it about that be…” Senka stopped mid-sentence when I returned to the room.

“Let the drinking begin my ladies,” I said sitting the tray of drinks down. “So why y’all get into it?” I questioned Senka.

“Because he and Trill were planning on lying and telling you that Trill was crashing at his place for a few days. I’m like how is that even possible when I’m over there most of the time?”

“So how do you know Trill will come get his stuff?” Venus asked.

“I know Trill. Trust me. I know what’ll make him tick.”

We laughed then clinked our glasses together.

“Well I’m just glad my girl got some licks off!” Jayla sang while doing her little shoulder bounce dance. “Damn though, I wish I could’ve been there.” We all laughed at her wishful facial expression.

“Is Ava or Quinn coming?” Jayla asked. “Seems like I haven’t seen them in forever.”

BLIP! BLIP! BLIP! Three crisp chirp text notifications sounded from my phone.

“Um, well Ava is in the friendly skies somewhere,” I said getting up to check my notifications.

It was Ashton sending me a picture of a prospective house. He was on yet another business venture only this time he was looking to relocate and his company’s Arizona office happened to be in need of a Chief IT manager. He’d been out there a week and I missed him.

“And Quinn started school I think,” I lied as I typed Ashton back asking what time it was there. He hit me back instantly with 4:30 P.M so I decided to call.

“She’s been acting a little weird at work lately,” Senka added.
